MICHIANA WATER AUTHORITY – WATER BILLING UPDATE
Recently Michiana Water Authority customers were sent a billing. The following is an explanation of the water billing system as there appears to be some confusion.
The Water Authority bills water customers on a quarterly basis. The minimum charge for each water customer is $170.00 per year ($42.50 per quarter not including water usage, which is billed at $3.00 for each 1,000 gallons of water used). This charge is broken down as follows: $40.50 Ready-To-Serve charge, $ 2.00 hydrant surcharge, in addition to any water used.
The Ready-To-Serve fee was raised to cover the payment of the water meter loan, which will amortize in late 2014. At that time the Ready-To-Serve fee will be lowered. The hydrant surcharge is assessed to cover line flushing and fire department usage.
Please note that since it takes time to read water meters, each customer’s water usage dates will vary. Billing of service charges will be on the following schedule (in addition to any water used):
04.01.2010 through 06.30.2010 July 1, 2010 water billing due 07.30.2010
07.01.2010 through 09.30.2010 October 1, 2010 water billing due 10.31.2010
10.01.2010 through 12.31.2010 January 1, 2011 water billing due 01.31.2011
01.01.2011 through 03.31.2011 April 1, 2011 water billing due 04.30.2011
04.01.2011 through 06.30.2011 July 1, 2011 water billing due 07.30.2011
Etc…………
The water billing sent out dated May 24, 2010 was actually for 10.01.2009 through 03.31.2010 in addition to any water usage from October, 2009 through the ending of May, 2010 (6 months billing). This bill should’ve gone out in April, 2010; however, due to the conversion of water billing software, multiple issues arose which resulted in a delay in mailing the bills until the end of May, 2010.
We appreciate your cooperation as we attempt to convert our billing process. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Village offices at 269.469.4600 or 269.469.1967.
