MICHIANA VILLAGE COUNCIL ELECTION DEADLINE
August 10, 2010 - 4:00 pm is the deadline for Village candidates who wish to seek office at the November general election. They must file an Affidavit of Identity and a nonpartisan nominating petition with the New Buffalo Township Clerk, 17425 Red Arrow Highway, New Buffalo, MI 49117 (269.469.1011). Withdrawal deadlines elapse at 4:00 pm on August 13, 2010.
· NO LESS THAN TEN (10) SIGNATURES BUT NOT MORE THAN FIFTEEN (15) SIGNATURES. ARE REQUIRED ON THE NON-PARTISAN NOMINATING PETITION
· Three Positions Open in November, 2010
Nominating petitions may only be signed by residents of Michiana Village WHO ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE within the Village. Since there are only three (3) positions currently up for re-election, Village residents may only sign up to three (3) petitions.
Michigan Compiled Law – Section 168.544c states:
“(6) An individual shall not sign more nominating petitions for the same office than there are persons to be elected to the office. An individual who violates this subsection is guilty of a misdemeanor.”
The petitions are then submitted to the New Buffalo Township Clerk for review. Once the signatures on the petition have been verified, candidate names are then submitted to the Berrien County Clerk’s Office for placement on the November, 2010 ballot.
